Supply line temperature
Water in the supply hose sits at ambient temperature (60–70°F) between production cycles - right in Legionella's growth range. The machine chills the water. The supply line doesn't.

Idle-cycle stagnation
Overnight. Weekends. Low-demand periods. Stagnant water in the supply line and inlet valve is when biofilm forms and bacteria count builds - before the next batch of ice is made.

Unlike shower exposure, ice is consumed directly. Patients receive ice chips for hydration. Drinks are mixed with it. Freezing doesn't kill bacteria - it preserves them until the ice melts.
